ThekeytounderstandinghowtheTMoperatesistoseeitintermsofafreerunningcounterwhose valueisthencomparedwiththevalueofpre-programmedinternalcomparators.Whenthefree runningcounterhasthesamevalueasthepre-programmedcomparator,knownasacomparematch situation,aTMinterruptsignalwillbegeneratedwhichcanclearthecounterandperhapsalso changetheconditionoftheTMoutputpin.TheinternalTMcounterisdrivenbyauserselectable clocksource,whichcanbeaninternalclockoranexternalpin. TM Clock Source TheclocksourcewhichdrivesthemaincounterineachTMcanoriginatefromvarioussources.The selectionoftherequiredclocksourceisimplementedusingtheTnCK2~TnCK0bitsintheTMcontrol registers.TheclocksourcecanbearatioofeitherthesystemclockfSYSortheinternalhighclockfH, thefLIRCclocksourceortheexternalTCKnpin.Notethatsettingthesebitstothevalue101willselect areservedclockinput,ineffectdisconnectingtheTMclocksource.TheTCKnpinclocksourceis usedtoallowanexternalsignaltodrivetheTMasanexternalclocksourceorforeventcounting.
