Variousoscillatoroptionsoffertheuserawiderangeoffunctionsaccordingtotheirvarious
applicationrequirements.Theflexiblefeaturesoftheoscillatorfunctionsensurethatthebest
optimisationcanbeachievedintermsofspeedandpowersaving.Oscillatorselectionsandoperation
areselectedthroughtherelevantcontrolregister.
Oscillator Overview
Inadditiontobeingthesourceofthemainsystemclocktheoscillatorsalsoprovideclocksources
fortheWatchdogTimerandTimeBaseInterrupts.Twofullyintegratedinternaloscillators,requiring
noexternalcomponents,areprovidedtoformarangeofbothfastandslowsystemoscillators.The
higherfrequencyoscillatorprovideshigherperformancebutcarrywithitthedisadvantageofhigher
powerrequirements,whiletheoppositeisofcoursetrueforthelowerfrequencyoscillator.With
thecapabilityofdynamicallyswitchingbetweenfastandslowsystemclock,thedevicehasthe
flexibilitytooptimizetheperformance/powerratio,afeatureespeciallyimportantinpowersensitive
portableapplications.
