High Pass EQ Function If there is a high pass function desired in an application, to block very low frequencies that could harm the speaker, or eliminate little offset voltages a simple capacitor CHP could do this function. The implementation is shown in Figure 10. The correct capacitor value for the desired cut-off frequency can be calculated with the following formula: A typical cut-off frequency in an audio application is 20Hz. The resistor value of R1 in this example is 10kΩ. The result of the calculation is a capacitor with a value of 796nF. Because such a capacitor is not available on the market a capacitor close to the calculated value should be selected. This would be 750nF or 820nF.
