3.3.2
Short circuit, overload and overcurrent
A short circuit is defined when port current reaches 425 mA, typ. Moreover, if port voltage
drops below 25 V, then maximum loop current is decreased, linearly, to limit power
dissipation. A short condition is considered as a fault after a period of 65 ms, typ. (see
Table 12: Electrical characteristics, parameter Tshort).
When the above conditions are met, the port is disconnected, and the fault bit set HIGH in
the Channel Event registers.
Overload or excess power is defined when port power consumption reaches 15.4W for
longer than 65 ms, typ. (see
Table 12: Electrical characteristics, parameter Tovld).
If smart-power management is active, then the overload power limit is set instead -
according to the power class.
When the above conditions are met, the port is disconnected, and the fault bit is set HIGH.
