EachI/OporthasitsowncontrolregisterknownasPAC~PDC,tocontroltheinput/output
configuration.OnlytheoutputforPA7isopen-drainoutput.Withthiscontrolregister,eachCMOS
outputorinputcanbereconfigureddynamicallyundersoftwarecontrol.EachpinoftheI/Oportsis
directlymappedtoabitinitsassociatedportcontrolregister.FortheI/Opintofunctionasaninput,
thecorrespondingbitofthecontrolregistermustbewrittenasa“1”.Thiswillthenallowthelogic
stateoftheinputpintobedirectlyreadbyinstructions.Whenthecorrespondingbitofthecontrol
registeriswrittenasa“0”,theI/OpinwillbesetupasaCMOSoutput.Ifthepiniscurrentlysetup
asanoutput,instructionscanstillbeusedtoreadtheoutputregister.However,itshouldbenoted
thattheprogramwillinfactonlyreadthestatusoftheoutputdatalatchandnottheactuallogic
statusoftheoutputpin.
