15.3.1

Baud rate generation

The baud rate generator is clocked by fCPU/2. The timer counts downwards and can be

started or stopped through the global enable bit SSCEN in the SSCCON0 register. The

SSCBR0 is a dual-function register for baud rate generation and reloading. Reading

SSCBR0, while the SSC0 is enabled, returns the content of the timer. Reading SSCBR0,

while the SSC0 is disabled, returns the programmed reload value. In this mode the desired

reload value can be written to SSCBR0.

Note:

Never write to SSCBR0 while the SSC0 is enabled

The formulae below calculate the resulting baud rate for a given reload value and the

required reload value for a given baud rate:

Where (SSCBR) represents the content of the reload register, taken as an unsigned 16-bit

integer. Table 122 and Table 123 list some possible baud rates against the required reload

values and the resulting bit times for 40 MHz and 64 MHz CPU clock respectively. Maximum

baud rate is limited to 8 Mbaud.
