Controllingthepoweron/offfunctionoftheA/Dconvertercircuitryisimplementedusingthe
ADOFFbitintheADCR0register.ThisbitmustbezerotopowerontheA/Dconverter.Whenthe
ADOFFbitisclearedtozerotopowerontheA/Dconverterinternalcircuitryacertaindelay,as
indicatedinthetimingdiagram,mustbeallowedbeforeanA/Dconversionisinitiated.Evenifno
pinsareselectedforuseasA/DinputsbyclearingtheACE9~ACE0bitsintheACERHandACERL
registers,iftheADOFFbitiszerothensomepowerwillstillbeconsumed.Inpowerconscious
applicationsitisthereforerecommendedthattheADOFFissethightoreducepowerconsumption
whentheA/Dconverterfunctionisnotbeingused.
ThereferencevoltagesupplytotheA/DConvertercanbesuppliedfromeitherthepositivepower
supplypin,VDD,orfromanexternalreferencesourcessuppliedonpinVREF.Thedesiredselection
ismadeusingtheVREFSbit.AstheVREFpinispin-sharedwithotherfunctions,whentheVREFS
bitissethigh,theVREFpinfunctionwillbeselectedandtheotherpinfunctionswillbedisabled
automatically.
A/D Input Pins
AlloftheA/Danaloginputpinsarepin-sharedwiththePBandPEI/Opinsaswellasother
functions.TheACE9~ACE0bitsintheACERHandACERLregisters,determinewhetherthe
inputpinsaresetupasA/Dconverteranaloginputsorwhethertheyhaveotherfunctions.Ifthe
ACE9~ACE0bitsforitscorrespondingpinissethighthenthepinswillbesetuptobeanA/D
converterinputandtheoriginalpinfunctionsdisabled.Inthisway,pinscanbechangedunder
programcontroltochangetheirfunctionbetweenA/Dinputsandotherfunctions.Allpull-high
resistors,whicharesetupthroughregisterprogramming,willbeautomaticallydisconnectedifthe
pinsaresetupasA/Dinputs.NotethatitisnotnecessarytofirstsetuptheA/Dpinasaninputinthe
PBCorPECportcontrolregistertoenabletheA/DinputaswhentheACE9~ACE0bitsenablean
A/Dinput,thestatusoftheportcontrolregisterwillbeoverridden.
TheA/Dconverterhasitsownreferencevoltagepin,VREF,howeverthereferencevoltagecan
alsobesuppliedfromthepowersupplypin,achoicewhichismadethroughtheVREFSbitinthe
ADCR1register.TheanaloginputvaluesmustnotbeallowedtoexceedthevalueofVREF.
