The SP is then incremented by one. Pull instructions are commonly used at the end of a subroutine to restore the contents of CPU registers that were pushed onto the stack before subroutine execution. Condition codes take on the value pulled from the stack, except that the X mask bit cannot change from 0 to 1. Software can leave the X bit set, leave it cleared, or change it from 1 to 0, but it can be set only by a reset or by recognition of an XIRQ interrupt.
