Power Consumption
Measurement
Since the introduction of the first C51 devices, every manufacturer made operat ing I
CC
measurements under reset, which made sense for the designs were the CPU was run-
ning under reset. In our new devices, the CPU is no longer active during reset, so the
power consumption is very low but is not really representat ive of what will happen in the
customer system. That ’s why, while keeping measurements under Reset, we present a
new way to measure the operat ing I
CC:
Using an internal test ROM, the following code is executed:

Ports 1, 3, 4 are disconnected, RST = V
CC, XTAL2 is not connected and XTAL1 is driven
by the clock.
This is much more representat ive of the real operat ing I
CC.
